Yesterday I mentioned that there is a Malaysian dish here that is common for breakfast, called Nasi Lemak. I just wanted to show you how this dish looks like. Nasi means rice in Bahasa Malay and Lemak means fat. The rice is cooked with coconut milk in pandan leaves and has therefore a creamier taste than plain boiled rice. The rice is then mixed with chilli paste, dried fish and boiled egg. The small triangular package with Nasi Lemak is a variant that is sold on the streets here in Penang, but the dish can also be ordered in restaurants and cafes. The Nasi Lemak ordered in restaurants have a more presentable outlook than the one on the streets, but the taste is equally good. Definitely worth trying!
