The before pictures

 Här kommer de första bilderna på vårt shophouse innan renoveringen. Som ni kommer att se är det en ganska omfattande renovering som kommer att göras innan huset är klart. Det känns otroligt spännande för oss att få vara med att återskapa storheten i ett sådant historiskt, gammalt hus och vi ska göra allt vi kan för att göra huset rättvisa. Fast vi kommer såklart även att ge huset en touch av vår egen nutidshistoria. Det ska ju trots allt renoveras utav ett gift par som har sina kulturella och historiska bakgrunder i Sverige, Kina och Malaysia. Detta kommer självklar att synas för den framtida historien. Inte minst i form av ett svenskt kafe.


Here are the first pictures of our shophouse before the renovation. As you will see, there is quite an extensive renovation that we will do before the house is ready. It feels very exciting for us to do a project like this and to recreate the grandeur of such a historic, old house. We will do everything we can to make the house justice. But we will of course also give the house a touch of our own present history. The shophouse will after all be renovated by a married couple who both have their different cultural and historical backgrounds from Sweden, China and Malaysia. This will of course be shown for the future history. Not least in the form of a Swedish café.




Det här är framsidan på vårt hus. Fasaden på huset ska bättras på och målas om. Fönster och dörrar ska även de målas om i en annan färg än grön. Exakt vilken färg har vi inte bestämt ännu.


This is the front of our house. The facade of the house has to be repaired and repainted. Windows and doors will also be painted in a color other than green. We have not decided exactly what color yet.



Det här är det första rummet i huset och det rum som så småningom ska förvandlas till ett svenskt kafe. Det är mycket som ska göras innan dess men redan nu känner jag mig så himla nöjd över rummets potential. Det kommer passa perfekt för ett svenskt kafe! Planen var att göra om hela rummet från golv till tak, men eftersom golvet fortfarande är intakt och har en vit färg med lite inslag av ljusare färgnyanser (ungefär som ett vinylgolv) kommer det passa bra in med resten av inredningen. Så då slipper jag lägga pengarna på den biten, plus att det ur miljösynpunkt känns bra att kunna återanvända något av det som redan finns i huset.


This is the first room in the house and the room that will eventually be turned into a Swedish café. There is much to do before then, but already I feel so very pleased with the room's potential. It will be perfect for a Swedish cafe! The plan was to redo the entire room from floor to ceiling, but because the floor is still intact and has a white color with some hints of brighter hues (much like a vinyl flooring) it will fit in well with the rest of the decor. I will therefore not have to spend the money on the floor and instead put that money to use on something else, plus it feels more environmentally friendly to be able to reuse some of the existing materials in the house.

Dessa två bilder visar det nuvarande köket. Jag förstår inte hur de som bott där innan oss har kunnat leva med ett kök som detta, men vi är ju alla olika. Köket ska totalrenoveras med nya golv, väggar, köksutrustning, skåp, kyl, frys etc.

These two images show the current kitchen. I do not understand how those who lived in this house before us has been able to live there so long with a kitchen like this? The kitchen will be fully renovated with new floors, walls, kitchen appliances, cabinets, fridge, freezer, etc.

Det här är också del utav det nuvarande köket och är för närvarande den enda toalett som finns i huset. Allt detta ska rivas och vara en del av köket. Här kommer vi ställa kyl och frys samt göra förvaringsmöjligheter och lite annat. Till vänster finns en liten dörr till vår bakgård som vi delar med 3 andra grannar.

This is also part of the existing kitchen and is currently the only toilet in the house. All this will be demolished and be a part of our kitchen later on. Here, we will put the fridge and freezer and make room for some storage. To the left, there is a small door to our backyard that we share with 3 other neighbors.

Detta är vår öppna courtyard på nedervåningen. I det stora hela är det helt enkelt ett fyrkantigt hål i taket som är gkort för att luft ska kunna strömma igenom huset och göra det svalare. När det regnar här i Malaysia så kommer det således regna in i vårt hus. Det är så svårt att föreställa sig detta när man inte har sett det på riktigt. Just nu är det inte heller en riktig courtyard eftersom förra ägaren täkt över det med ett tillfälligt tak. Taket kommer vi att ta bort eftersom vi vill ha effekten av den svala luften som kommer in i huset.

This is our open courtyard on the ground floor. Basically, it is simply a square hole made from the ground and all the way to the roof that is made ​​for air to flow through the house and make it cooler. When it rains here in Malaysia, it will thus rain into our house. It is so hard to imagine this when you have not seen it with your own eyes. Right now it's not a real open courtyard because the previous owner covered it with a temporary roof. We will remove the roof because we want the effect of the cool air coming into the house.

Så här ser den öppna courtyarden ut på andra våningen. Vi ska byta ut dessa väggar och fönster.

This is how the open courtyard looks like on the second floor. We will replace these walls and windows.



Det här är baksidan av huset på övervåningen. Vårt sovrum kommer att ligga här men då kommer väggen som ni ser i mitten av huset att tas bort för att göras om till ett stort sovrum.

This is the back of the house on the second floor and where our master bedroom will be. The wall that you can see in the middle of the house will be removed.


Det här kortet är taget från baksidan av andra vånigen i det som kommer att bli det stora sovrummet och längst bort är framsidan av huset. Alla skiljeväggar ska tas bort och rummet kommer sedan att göras om till ett kontor för min man och till ett gästrum med tillhörande badrum.


This photo is taken from the bedroom in the back of the house of the second floor and shows the middle part and the front of the house. All the partition walls in the middle will be removed. This space will later on be turned into an office area for my husband and a guestroom with toilet and bathroom.

Detta är en terass på andra våningen som vi ska göra om till toalett och badrum tillhörande det stora sovrummet.

This is a terrace on the second floor which we will turn into a master bathroom.

Så här ser de flesta av väggarna ut i huset. Allt gips kommer att rivas ner från väggarna så att teglet kommer fram. På vissa ställen kommer teglet att behållas och bara täckas med ett tunt lager av gips      medan andra väggar kommer att täckas helt med nytt gips. Detta görs inte med gipsplattor här utan      på fri hand.

This is what most of the walls look like in the house. All plaster will be torn down from the walls so that the bricks underneath will be exposed. In some places, the bricks will be retained and only covered with a thin layer of plaster, while others will be completely covered with new plaster.

Och renoveringen har äntligen börjat!
